This is my first written article in more than a year, it will kind of short just because I want this to be a debate starter. I’m hearing rumors that WWE is considering bringing back the brand extension. Originally there were things I liked about it …. 1) SECONDARY TITLES WERE MORE IMPORTANT 2) WRESTLERS WEREN’T OVEREXPOSED 3) DIFFERENT AUTHORITY FIGURES FELT MORE FRESHER (a MAJOR problem today) 4) ANNOUNCERS WEREN’T STALE (a minor problem today) 5) THERE WERE ACTUALLY DREAM MATCHES 6) PAY PER VIEWS FELT MORE IMPORTANT 7) SMACKDOWN WAS A MUST SEE SHOW!!!!! Over time, it did have its drawbacks. SMACKDOWN became a raw recap show, the World Heavyweight Championship became less important and less attention was put on the midcarders and more on the big superstars who were invited from either raw or smackdown. Side note: RAW and SMACKDOWN CAN NOT BE CONTROLLED BY ONE GM! 1) The world heavyweight title should not be split again. The belt should be shared between both shows. For example, let’s say brock lesnar is the champion and he is on the smackdown roster; the only way a raw superstar can get the title is one of 4 ways… a) Winning the ROYAL RUMBLE and title match at WrestleMania (assuming RAW superstar wins it) b) Cashing in the Money in the Bank (assuming RAW superstar wins it) c) Elimination Chamber (whether it be a #1 contender match or a match where you have 3 superstars from RAW, 2 from smackdown, and your champion) d) By beating top contenders on RAW. But for the majority of the time, the world title is defended on that particular show, which in this case is smackdown. 2) THE DRAFT WWE will draft superstars on main roster and NXT every year. Instead of putting in the entire NXT roster, put in 6 men and 4 women, (have them declare for the draft like college players going to the pros). Instead of it being on just RAW, I would make it a live special on WWE NETWORK or on USA, The draft would be done like it normally does. Some matches with be for 1 draft pick while others would be for 2. 3) NXT Speaking of NXT, in order for this to work…NXT’s roster would have to get bigger and the show would have to be longer (TAPED SHOWS = 2 HOURS, LIVE SPECIALS = 3 HOURS) this would be a way to get eyes on more prospects. 4) SELF COMPETITION RAW and SMACKDOWN are going to compete against each other for brand supremacy each year. I want to make survivor series an important event…I will combine the survivor series with bragging rights. Make the event a RAW vs SMACKDOWN competition, the elimination tag match can be the deciding match in the series. Also, to further increase the importance of the event. The winning roster would get #1 overall pick in the draft. I can see WWE doing a lot with this, someone betraying their team just to join a roster would be epic if done right. I would even make the world championship match part of the competition. 5) SECONDARY TITLES DIVAS TITLE: champion would defend title against top contender from other show. TAG-TEAM: BELTS WOULD NOT BE SPLIT. Champions would defend titles against top contenders from other show. IF NXT TAG CHAMP can hold onto belts after 6 months that team can decide if they want to challenge WWE tag champs thus surrendering NXT titles if they win. IC TITLE would stay on RAW, US TITLE would stay on SMACKDOWN. I WOULD ALSO BRING BACK THE CRUSERWEIGHT TITLE (smackdown) and LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE (raw) to help build midcard talent. Being that RAW is 3 hours long, this idea would benefit talent like CESARO, DOLPH ZIGGLER or any other midcarder and NXT superstar. Let’s face facts: CENA & ORTON don’t have much time left, CM PUNK walked, you have guys and gals that are on the main roster that are ready for the chance that VINCE AND WWE are not giving them (even though he says they haven’t earned it)…it’s time to prepare for the future. Now, I know WWE today is not bold enough or smart to even think of something like but after all, this is just an idea that I took about 20 minutes to think of…am not a booker, a writer or promoter and am only 21 years old - so give me your opinions in the comment section below the link to this article.
![]() By Double A... Let me start off by saying that I did not watch TNA's entire broadcast of Impact Wrestling on Destination America. However, I watched about three quarters of the show and feel I can make my review based off what I saw. It's been quiet some time since TNA's aired a live program on television. And the night was especially important for them since it's was the first episode of Impact Wrestling to air on Destination America. I feel the people over at Destination America were very generous with clearing 20 hours of time so that TNA could acclimate the audience of the network to what TNA has to offer. But did it do the job and was 20 hours really necessary? Well that is just a personal preference but I think 20 hours was a bit much. That is neither here nor there though. Dixie Carter and her crew had ample time to re-evaluate what they were doing and trying to come off fresh that what they were doing in the past. Especially towards the end of 2014. Now if your reading and expect ol' Double A to just rip TNA a new one, well you better go and find another blog someplace else. There a lot of bitter wrestling fans out there in the internet so it shouldn't be hard to find one. I want to talk about their effort they put forth Last Night. I will give TNA an "A" for trying their best to grasp the audience. However, I feel what was presented wasn't enough to get everybody talking. The opening segment featured a brawl with the entire roster that started out in the streets of Manhattan and eventually spilled into the Manhattan Center where they brawled everywhere. And that was the problem. The fact they brawled everywhere highlighted the fact that there was many empty seats shown on television. I would have avoided the brawl if I knew the building was not sold out. But I understand why it was done. The matches that were presented were your standard wrestling fair. With the exception of the main event, there really wasn't one match that stood out over the other. The main event was impressive to me given how well Bobby Roode and Bobby Lashley work together. But the formation of this new faction that now involves Low-Ki and Samoa Joe took away from what was a very good match. Factions have been something TNA has used as a crutch for many years. But forming one from the onset of a reboot was not the smart move in my opinion. One thing I was very pleased with was the combination of Tazz and Josh Matthews. I always knew from Josh's time in the WWE he was a gifted announcer and always enjoyed his work. In TNA, he is now given the freedom to call matches the way that Jim Ross, Gordon Solie, Lance Russell, Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and others were able to call before plugging everything on social media become the standard. Tazz who I always felt was a good color commentator complimented Josh Matthews well. No offense to Mike Tenay, but his pairing with Tazz never was good and more then likely would have remained bad had Tenay not been pulled from booth. Jeremy Borash being involved in a storyline was one moment that could have been avoided all together. JB should just be left alone and perform interviews which is what he is good at. But the only other thing I was critical about the show was it looked the same. I was hoping to visually see a new look and approach to the way TNA was presented. And it basically was the same. Maybe with time that will change, who knows? So what did I think overall? What grade would I give them? Well I will give them a "B-". Typically a higher grade for any one thing I have given to TNA. But most of it went to the effort and quality of wrestling. Is this the beginning of something positive for them? One can only hope so. I really wish them the best of luck. There are too many wrestlers in that organization that are sacrificing a lot and passing up other opportunities in the event something very good happens. And I really do hope that is the case. It would be a shame to see their efforts go to waist. I've already blamed Dixie Carter and management enough. It's time to start to care for the performers that are being put in less then favorable positions. But truly for the benefit for them and the industry, I hope that something really positive has been happening in Nashville, Tennessee for the last 3 months. By Double A
This is some goofy form of entertainment we like. Take a look at what we put up with. If your a product of the 1980s like I was, well then you know exactly what I am talking about. 30 years ago in 1985, the wrestling world was flooded with quality wrestling and sports entertainment. In March of 1985, WrestleMania 1 happened and took the entertainment industry by storm. But down South, the NWA was heating up the scene with Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and many others every Saturday Night at 6:05pm on TBS...the Superstation. Fast forward a few years, and the industry dried up somewhat. 1992/1993 came around and the only things we saw were ridiculous characters created on TBS. And the same old kid friendly wrestling over on the USA Network many of us were used to watching Every Saturday & Sunday Morning. But, being good patient wrestling fans, we sat it out and waited. 1996 arrived and so did a group that changed the landscape of wrestling, the New World Order. But in Stamford, Connecticut, a man who was once Stunning was now Stone Cold and blazing a trail to a era full of attitude. And Every Monday Night we were glued to our television screens. Many of us were switching the channels back and forth. Some of us had 2 TV's running at the same time. And some of us recorded both shows on a machine I don't think exists anymore called a VCR. But just like it had happened once before, the scene dried up. Atlanta, Georgia was no longer headquarters for one company. And there was only one shop in town. And quickly we became bored again. It wouldn't last long. In 2003, the world we love took a shot in the arm and became the era of classic matches. Stories almost seemed to take a backseat to the action that was going on in the ring. And Every Spring, a new 5 star match for the history books would take place. Sometimes we would even get 2 or 3 matches in one night that were like that. However, the era of great matches would wind down as well. The stories and characters would once again become the main focus. And those classic matches we loved so much became few and far between. But in the end, we stuck around in the event that a new day would come. And it did. But now, a little of everything for all these generations are a part of Today's product. But not good pieces are being used. And because of that, the show tends to suffer severely. So what do we do? Many of us turned to our computer screens for some outside entertainment. But it took one Japanese event that aired LIVE on pay-per-view for the first time in the United States to really get the audience talking again. It makes sense. A lot of sports fans out there prefer college basketball over professional basketball. Same goes for football. But in wrestling, where everything is jotted down on a piece of paper before it happens...shouldn't the "professionals" be giving us what we want and what we desire? It's 2015 and the picture can not be any clearer in what the audience wants Today. Last Night, a sold out crowd in Corpus Cristi, Texas witnessed a decent episode of WWE Monday Night RAW. But they were dead, silent, mute, and had little to no reaction of anything. Normally a Texas crowd would be on fire. But the crowd in Corpus? Maybe they have grown tired of giving false praise for something deep down inside they know it's not what they wanted. I find it ridiculous that a company who has the resources to blow any promotion out of water in every aspect, can't seem to do it. Sure they make a lot more money then all these other promotions combined. But that's all they can do. They aren't winning us over anymore. Those dollars will dry up some point. Another Ted Turner will come around one day and hopefully wake the mighty Titan again from his delusional slumber. The wrestling year for 2015 started in Tokyo, Japan on January 4th. How is it going to end? Will it end in Japan as well? I wonder. Because as a fan of 32 years, I'm starting to think the industry I once loved is dead. I'm not unhappy that people can get what they want from other places. I'm very pleased that you the fan now have choices. But are you going to Japan for a weekly TV taping? Because I will tell you this, it's a shorter drive when the taping is in your backyard. But without the desire, why even go to the taping in the first place? Ramble...done.
