Wrestlemania X
As I was looking through Owen Hart matches remembering him on the day of his passing, this great youtube clip landed in my lap. The capper took the time to put a few segments on the front of the video to nicely recap up to the point of this match in what would be far from the end of one of, what I'd consider, the WWE's greatest feuds. This match in particular has been called the greatest opening match in PPV history by many. As many will remember, Bret Hart won the WWF Championship from Yokozuna later that night and, in one of my favorite segments ever in wrestling, an angered Owen Hart comes out to the entrance ramp and angrily shouts at Bret as his friends and Bret are celebrating and trying to get Owen to come into the ring and celebrate with him.
Bret Hart vs Owen Hart was a feud that carried the company for much of 1994. As a fan, I thought this feud would keep Owen in the WWF title picture for good. Owen made the majority of Bret's reign after Wrestlemania X a nightmare, leading to many other great matches headlining PPVs later in the year. I think Bret never had a better opponent than Owen in his career. This match shows the true chemistry they had in the ring together. Watching how effortlessly this match progresses shows how capable they are of putting together an amazing match. The longer the match goes, the more the NYC crowd gets into it. You just don't get feuds built like this in the WWE anymore and it's a shame.
