In the very competitive and profitable world of phone and tablet games it can be difficult to stand out. Once in a while a game like angry birds or cut the rope comes along and explodes. Most of the time, a game is developed, gets some downloads, and will either hang around or die a slow death. Then there comes a game like Car Town Streets. This free game has been around for at least a year but has gained significant popularity in the last few months. For whatever reason, Car Town is catching on like fire and for good reason.
Car Town Streets is a fun and entertaining game that is as addictive as coke......a cola (where was your mind on that one?). The premise is to build towns/different kinds of cars while earning money and growing businesses. As your town, cars, and businesses grow you get to new levels...making other properties and possessions available. As an added bonus you can go into the town race track to earn trophies and other rewards.
Various strategies play into getting the most of Car Town Streets. Everything revolves around the cars so you must collect as many as possible by either finding scrappers to rebuild or buying them with cash! It is also important to budget your funds to buy businesses as they become available (this will let you have the cars "work" and bring in more money). One of the businesses available are part stores that help upgrade the cars to perform and earn better. Other businesses are service related (gas stations, car washes) and are used to keep the cars maintained so they don't break down. As your collection grows, tough decisions must be made as to what vehicles get allocated the most resources.
Personally, the most entertaining part of the game is seeing all the different type of vehicles that are created. They range from compact basic types, to pick up trucks and sports cars to the exotic. Most of the autos are real makes and models. All of the major brands are represented (Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Dodge, etc). Even the Ecto 1 from the Ghostbuster movies is available!
The only true downside to this game is how hard it is to earn cash! There are two types of currency used which are gold and cash. Each form of currency can buy different things. Gold buys businesses, salvage/rebuilds of cars and properties. Cash is needed to buys the garages that rebuild the cars (you start the game with one) and "new" vehicles. You sometimes earn 1-2 dollars of cash but it is very rare. Cash can also be used to decrease build times for property, businesses, and cars. As a result, you must choose how to spend your cash wisely! Of course the game will let you buy the cash...WITH REAL MONEY through your iTunes store account.
All in all this is an extremely entertaining game that provides tons of fun! The best part is that after initially getting the game started you can choose how much time to dedicate. You can play for hours and keep letting the cars earn money while building up or just go in for a few minutes and exit. It makes for a great experience if you are on the go and just want to kill a few minutes here and there. I gladly give Car Town Streets a 9/10 for creativity and smooth interaction.
