TNA Gives Me Headaches & More...

It's about time that I do something I normally don't do.  And that's take pen to paper and talk about some of the things that really make me scratch my head.  And if you have been listening to The Rant for last couple of months, we have been especially harsh on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and it's current president, Dixie Carter.  Hell, I will have really harsh with them since the first day we have been on the air.  But it's seems lately that they really can't get a hold of reality.  And unfortunately, whether I am a fan or not, TNA is on the verge of closing it's doors forever if they continue on their current trend.

So why am I so bitter?  Or a better question is why do I even care?  That's the problem.  I actually do care.  I don't have to be a fan of their product to want them to be a good viable wrestling promotion.  If they do good, all wrestling promotions do good and step up their own respective games in the process.  Without somebody nipping at the heels of the WWE and Vince McMahon, you can clearly see that they aren't trying.  Yea they have a really good show every now and then.  But for the most part, any given episode of Monday Night RAW or Friday Night SmackDown leaves something to be desired.  You could argue that NXT is a great show, and it is.  But a television show that is available strictly to Hulu Plus and foreign counties, does not convince me enough to say they are trying.  I remember a time when the wrestling shows were good consistently week in and week out.

But back to TNA.  If TNA and Dixie Carter would listen to the fans who don't watch or have a problem with their show, she would see that something is really wrong.  Let's see the proof in the United States alone.  A real wrestling fan will watch any show from any promotion right?  Well considering RAW normally does 3 times the audience then Impact Wrestling shows me there is either A) an untapped audience or B) an audience that don't care and/or don't like what they have offer.

And I tend to think it's more "B" then anything else.  And if that is the case, well shit, they really need to read or listen to what some of us say.  And don't brush us off either.  It just makes us more upset and want to watch less.  #AskDixie was trending Worldwide Last Week and the reason was the fans know Dixie Carter will not listen to the fans.  So they sent her questions that had absolutely no merit, were obscene, and stupid.  She thinks by issuing a hashtag will show us she connects to the audience and listens to us.  That could not be further from the truth.  Because if she really was listening to the audience, TNA would not be in the current financial ruin that it's in.  It's basic Business 101.  You put out a product people like, they show you that they like it by buying tickets to the events and ordering pay-per-views.  Neither of which is happening.  And nothing anybody tells me will convince me otherwise.

Am I taking into considering it's not easy running a wrestling promotion?  Absolutely!  But for somebody who has been in the business for 10 years and has a staff of former wrestlers and wrestling executives working the office, things really should not be that bad.  I mean things are still being run as if it's their first day on the job.  This stuff could have flown in 2002 but not in 2013.  When World Championship Wrestling closed in 2001, the sport I love took a huge hit.  And the overall industry suffered.  The spark was gone and complacency set in big time.  And that's what is happening right now.

It's now or never TNA and Dixie Carter.  If you want to continue as a wrestling company and have a banner history that many promotions do, time to change.  If not....and you want to continue operate the way you without changing, tell us the fans now so that we can prepare for the end.  We won't waste your time so don't waste ours.  And quite honestly, I want to rid myself of this headache you tend to give me.  I respect your efforts in this sport.  But sometimes just trying isn't good enough.  Vince McMahon might be an asshole and has gone somewhat senile.  But there is a very good reason why he is #1.
