It has been about three months since the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame righted some significant wrongs and finally inducted Rush and Heart. With those HUGE injustices made right...the long arduous process shall soon start to select the 2014 class. Let this serve as the first shot fired and my two cents on the next three outrageous snubs that the Hall needs to address next:
This one is a no-brainer. For a few years towards the end of the 70's this was the BIGGEST rock band in the world! They were a household name with a huge sound and bigger image. To this day it is hard to go anywhere in the world and find anyone over the age of 40 who doesn't know who these guys are. The list of musicians influenced by Kiss are too large to mention. This band also revolutionized rock and roll merchandizing, which prior to Kiss was a largely untapped resource. Combine this with the devoted Kiss Army, who are still packing the live shows and buying the bands albums makes this an easy choice!
For some reason, this band never seems to get much mention in the debate over who deserves to be in the hall. Started in 1972, Devo were every bit a part of the Punk/New Wave movement as Blondie, The Clash, The Ramones or any other band was. In addition, their innovation with synthesizers and various forms of electronic music formed the groundwork and influence for most of the electro-pop music that is so popular today. Combine this with the unique visual look and concepts that did not exist prior to Devo and the Cleveland-based Rock Hall SHOULD be inducting this locally-created treasure immediately.
Cue the haters who say Whitney is not rock...The Hall has already opened the door for pop performers by inducting Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna. As a result, there is no way put that group in and leave out the late Ms. Houston. Her accomplishments are undeniable. She was and is a worldwide icon that sold millions of albums and filled arenas throughout the world! We are probably talking about the second most powerful female soul voice of all time outside of Aretha Franklin! The Rock Hall committee needs to honor Whitney Houston's memory and induct her in 2014. The main reason she probably is not in yet is that most people assume she already is!
